Clean City Initiative - Transforming a health hazard into a recycling opportunity

For many years, the municipal landfill, located on the outskirts of the city represented a huge health hazard to the population.

TAMSHI embarked on a public-private initiative with the District Municipality of Fernando Lores, to close and clean up the municipal dump, providing a better quality of life and reducing pollution in the community. To replace this, the municipality is implementing a composting system which is a more environmentally-friendly and sanitary alternative.

The Municipality, under the leadership of new Mayor, Jose Ruiz Ruiz Clever, has committed to make Tamshiyacu a clean city through education and the management of organic waste. It is natural that TAMSHI and the municipality are aligned on this topic of public health. No one other than TAMSHI has voluntarily supported the municipality to solve this problem for the environment.
— Eberth Melgar, Head of Community Relations TAMSHI
It segregates waste and groups it into organic, plastics, and glass, which will help the people have a greater awareness of environmental stewardship. This action represents a great example of public-private cooperation for the benefit of the town.
